A piece of Japanese history
The Japanese trend of wood finishing called Yakisugi conquers the D-A-CH area. In this method, wood is refined by charring to give it a special appearance and natural protection. Originally known as Yakisugi in Japan, the technique is called Shou Sugi Ban in Western Japan. Even the Romans and Vikings used charred wood for huts and ships in Europe. Now this unique look called “Shou Sugi Ban” is also available for SUN WOOD lightweight panels.
Modern in design, light in weight
Lightweight panels offer high strength, are resource efficient and easy to process. Our burnt wood lightweight panels are easy to work with conventional tools and machines, including clamps and screws for quick and safe assembly and free-form machining. Unlike conventional supporting materials such as spruce 3-layer or MDF, these panels are whitewashed to a much lighter weight, making them easier to handle. Ideal for resource-saving furniture, trade fair and store construction.
Thanks to their mechanical stability, our lightweight panels have a long service life, which means that they retain a like-new appearance even after years of use. The air pockets in the core layer also provide good thermal insulation and noise damping.
